Shenandoah National Park
Road bike; 50 miles or 70 miles; extremely strenuous
Are you hard core? Try this very demanding climb with an elevation change of over 3500 ft. Park at the commuter lot in the Town of Stanardsville (school complex) and head west on Route 33 to Skyline Dr. in the Shenandoah National Park. Route 33 has challenging grades, a high volume of traffic and a small portion of the road without a shoulder. Only serious bicyclists who are comfortable riding with traffic should attempt this ride. Even with all of these warnings, this route is still a local favorite for a great workout. Choose your trip: 50 miles roundtrip to Big Meadows (MM 51.2) or 70 miles round trip to Skyland (MM 41.7).
